Msgr. Sean Flynn, a priest of the Diocese for 50 years, dies in Ireland

Msgr. Sean P. Flynn, a retired priest of the Diocese of Trenton, died Nov. 24 in his native Ireland. He was 75.

Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., announced Msgr. Flynn’s passing in an email to the priests of the Diocese, asking for prayers for his peaceful repose.

Msgr. Flynn, who celebrated the 50th anniversary of priestly Ordination this year, was born in 1950 and ordained June 8, 1975, in Ireland by Bishop Patrick Mulligan.

During his years of service in the Trenton Diocese, his parish assignments included serving as parochial vicar of Sacred Heart Parish, Mount Holly; Blessed Sacrament Parish, Trenton; St. Denis Parish, Manasquan, and St. Dorothea Parish, Eatontown. As pastor he served in St. Dorothea Parish; St. Joseph Parish, Toms River, and St. Mark parish, Sea Girt. He also held numerous positions including dean of the Central Monmouth Deanery. He was invested a Chaplain to His Holiness with the title of monsignor in 1993.

Funeral proceedings are taking place Nov. 26-28 in Ireland. Further information will be shared as it becomes available. The Monitor will carry special coverage on the life and legacy of Msgr. Flynn in the coming days here online and in the December print magazine.
