Funeral services set for James A. Cassidy, former Monitor staffer

James A. Cassidy

 James A. Cassidy, who retired in 2007 as general manager of The Monitor, the diocesan newspaper, died June 17 at age 87.

Funeral services will be held June 21 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Moorestown, beginning with a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11.

Born in England in 1938, Mr. Cassidy grew up in Scotland, then lived in England and Ireland before settling with his wife in the United States.

Along with his career at The Monitor, during which he served as advertising manager and then as general manager, Mr. Cassidy was a longtime and active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, the Knights of Columbus and the greater Diocese which spans Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties. He was involved in many charitable events and ministries in both the parish and the Diocese. He also assisted with editing and the production of two books on the Diocese of Trenton, and he also edited and published, “Keeping The Faith and Passing it On,” which featured stories of faith that were shared by Our Lady of Good Counsel parishioners.

Mr. Cassidy was predeceased by his wife, Mary, who died in 2014. He is survived by six children: Pamela (Anthony) Scalamandre; Kevin (Mary) Cassidy; Neil (Danielle) Cassidy; Colette (Matthew) Kreitz; Eileen (Mark) Parsonage, and Michael (Melissa) Cassidy; nine grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
