Pandemic concerns prompt retreat house to suspend programs


San Alfonso Retreat House, a spiritual center located on the Jersey coastline in West End and staffed by the Redemptorist priests and brothers, announced Jan. 10 that due to concerns of the spread of the coronavirus, all programs have been suspended through Feb. 16.

A statement posted on the retreat house website and Facebook page said, “The decision comes after prayerful discernment and from a conviction that this temporary suspension is a prudent and necessary course of action to protect the health and well-being  of all retreatants, our staff and the Redemptorist community who resides here at San Alfonso.” To read the statement in its entirety, visit the website’s homepage https://www.sanalfonsoretreats.org/ or San Alfonso’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/alfonsoretreats/.

The retreat house, which is more than 90 years old, has guest rooms to accommodate 150 participants and offers variety of retreats, days of prayer and days and evenings of recollection.
