NEW YORK – The following are capsule reviews from Catholic News Service of new and recent video releases available on DVD and/or Blu-ray – as well as for online viewing. Theatrical movies have a Catholic News Service classification and Motion Picture Association rating. These classifications refer only to the theatrical version of the films below, and do not take into account any extra content.

"Battle Hymn" (Blu-ray Edition; 1957)

Fact-based story of Col. Dean Hess, the "flying parson" who returns to service during the Korean War, takes command of a squadron of inexperienced fighter pilots and starts an orphanage for the area's displaced children. Directed by Douglas Sirk, the dramatization will strike some as overly idealistic though Rock Hudson gives a credible performance as the dedicated minister willing to fight for a just cause, yet troubled in conscience by the need for killing. Wartime violence. The Catholic News Service classification is A-I – general patronage. Not rated by the Motion Picture Association. (KL Studio Classics)
