From staff reports

Just as boys and girls across the Diocese have been celebrating their First Holy Communions over the past weeks, so, too, did families celebrate May 6 as a group of youngsters from Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Hamilton, were welcomed to the Lord’s table to receive the Eucharist for the first time.

The Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony Church by Msgr. Thomas N. Gervasio, pastor, diocesan vicar general and moderator of the curia. The reception of the Eucharist marks the second Sacrament of Initiation the children would have received in their young lives, with Baptism being first and Confirmation in future years.

Deacon Kevin O’Boyle said he was happy to assist at the Mass that marked such an important day for the First Communicants. “They are members of our parish, they are the future of our parish, and I think it’s important that we’re here for them at these times.”
