A junior in St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, received a special honor during a recent visit to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Matthew Langdon, a Lincroft resident, was selected to receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award – an honor reserved for high school juniors who exhibit exceptional performance and potential in the areas of academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship, and leadership.
“I am so honored to receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award,” Langdon said, “and getting to spend the day at the ceremony at West Point was an amazing experience.”
The West Point Society of New Jersey sponsors high schools throughout the state, and those institutions each year select a junior who best exemplifies the criteria of the Eisenhower award.
Each award recipient, along with family members and a guidance counselor, are invited to West Point for the annual Leadership Awards Recognition Day, which is co-sponsored by the West Point Parents Club and the West Point Society of New Jersey. Honorees receive a plaque and letter of recognition.
Langdon plans on majoring in mechanical engineering in college. He has applied to Penn State and the University of Maryland.
