Second annual Dino Cesario Memorial Basketball Tournament held at Holy Cross School

Holy Cross School, Rumson, was the site of some exciting basketball action March 4-5 during the second annual Dino Cesario Memorial Basketball Tournament, which raised thousands of dollars to provide tuition assistance to students of the school.

The two days featured nine basketball games bringing together JV and Varsity girls’ teams from Holy Cross and Forrestdale Schools in Rumson, St. Leo the Great, Lincroft; St. Mary, New Monmouth; and the Titans Traveling Team of Spring Lake.

The idea of this event was born last year, shortly after Dino Cesario, beloved husband and father, died, leaving behind his loving wife Kathy and three daughters; Samantha, Haley and Chelsea.  Since all three girls attend Holy Cross School, and since Kathy is the assistant JV girls’ basketball coach at the school, the event was the perfect way to honor Dino and serve the school and community at the same time.  Last year’s event was a great success, raising enough money to provide financial assistance to three families, so it’s become both a new tradition and a labor of love for the Cesario Family.

The event concluded with a good-natured game between the Holy Cross JV boys’ and girls’ teams, which went right down to the wire.  In the end the girls took it, 32 to 30, but not without a fight.
