In honor of the academic accomplishments of parish students graduating from the eighth grade and from high school, St. Mary of the Lakes, Medford, celebrated Mass and threw a barbeque.
The June 2 celebration, hosted by the parish youth office and Knights of Columbus, St. Mary of the Lakes Council, Medford, drew a crowd of more than 150 youth and family members.
The program included a Mass celebrated by Msgr. James Dubell, pastor of St. Mary of the Lakes Parish. He encouraged the young graduates to continue to “build up the Body of Christ” through their participation in the Eucharist, as well as through the parish community and in the service of others.
The day also included a visit from Sibling Rivalry, the brother-sister team of Christian musicians Justin and Alina Zimmerman, who entertained the crowd with a selection of tunes.
The occasion was also prime for the recognition of 25 students who received a parish service award, as well as 11 eighth grade graduates who received the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary of the Lakes Council, Medford, Award for Altar Servers.
Youth are an active branch of the parish community, participating in a ministry program and assisting during liturgies in numerous roles. They also contribute to parish ministries, and provide service to a number of community organizations.
