More than 47,000 people on Facebook saw a video of Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., leading a procession of the Blessed Sacrament with more than 1,400 people from around the Diocese of Trenton during the daylong, bilingual Jubilee Year of Mercy Celebration on March 19 in Donovan Catholic and St. Joseph Parish, Toms River.
That video inspired something that rarely happens on our mostly English-speaking DOT page – a conversation in Spanish and Portuguese. Below are some of the comments left by those who are connected with our page. English translations from Spanish are provided in parentheses unless otherwise noted:
Jewel E. Brennan: Gracias Obispo David O’Connell! Que Dios te bendia, ruega por nosotros! (Thank you Bishop David O’Connell! May God bless you, pray for us!)
Fabiana E. Marcelo Melo: Abencoado (Blessed [in Portuguese])
Fabiola Díaz de Barrios: Hermosa comunidad y su manifestación de amor a Dios. (Beautiful community and your manifestation of loving God.)
Marisol Zelaya Angy: Aa k lindo muy lindo (Ah, how beautiful, so beautiful)
To watch the video and contribute to the conversation in any language, visit the Diocese’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/TheCatholicDioceseofTrenton.
Another top-performing post came from the world of sports. Notre Dame High School’s Xavier Lezinski was honored March 13 at the George Wah Scholar-Leader-Athlete awards dinner.
But that’s not the only reason the post about the Irish’s quarterback was so popular.
The following quote from Xavier is what gained a lot of attention: “My mom always told me what a special place it is and that I’m very lucky to have a grotto at my high school. She said it should be your goal to go every single day to offer up a 30-second prayer. Give 30 seconds at least to just offer your time to Mary every single day. I’ve kind of made it my mission every single day to thank God for all the opportunities he’s given me.”
More than 50 people liked the post and 16 were compelled to share it. Dozens of comments, ranging from “congratulations” and “love this,” to “Go Irish” and “We believe in Catholic schools” graced the post about the eloquent high school senior.
