The St. Paul School Lions dominated the field at the seventh annual Mercer County CYO Cross Country Meet held Oct. 27 in Mercer County Park. Runners from the Princeton grammar school won the top slot in each of the four divisions of boys and girls who competed on the 1.35 mile course.

“They did phenomenally!” Gerri Genovese Vogel, coach of the Lions track team, stated about her young runners. “It was so great for them.” The St. Paul students were among the 65 entrants in the race from seven schools; other diocesan competitors hailed from Incarnation-St. James, Ewing; Our Lady of the Angels, Trenton; St. Ann, Lawrenceville; St. Gregory the Great, Hamilton Square; Trenton Catholic Academy, Hamilton; and Villa Victoria, Ewing.

The top three winners per division, with finishing times, are: 

Junior Varsity Girls
Carolyn Maslanka, St. Paul, 8:09 (won this division last year with a time of 8:12)
Allison Hogan, St. Paul, 8:46 (placed third last year with a time of 9:10)
Emily Steege, St. Ann, 8:59

Junior Varsity Boys
Nolan Brody, St. Paul, 7:13 (placed third last year with a time of 8:06)
William Kelliher, St. Paul, 7:55
Tyler Kostin, St. Gregory the Great, 8:04

Varsity Girls
Rebecca Maslanka, St. Paul. 8:22 (shaved 10 seconds off last year’s win)
Saja Piaseczny, Trenton Catholic Academy, 9:12
Julia Santoro, St. Ann, 9:28

Varsity Boys
Rory Hogan
