Essay by Ryan Merkler, St. Rose School, Belmar

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

If I was Governor of New Jersey, I would lower taxes by making sure elected officials do not get paid too much or too little. Then I would ask the towns to merge into 21 Police forces one for each county.

Reducing the current force of 250 boroughs, 52 cities, 15 towns,244 townships,  and 4 villages. People work hard for their money and they should be able keep it.

Then I would improve the education process for public and private schools by making all teachers take a test that is designed to determine the best quality of education. If teachers do not meet the standard in an area, they will have to go to a 2 week training program. We need the best education for the children because e they are the future and if we don't nurture  them, the future will be the worst time to live in.

Next, I would help the economy grow and prosper by helping small businesses grow to bigger ones that means a plethora more jobs and more jobs means the economy will grow.

Finally, I would lower the crime rate by making sure there are police  officers patrolling the streets. I have noticed there are more officers around and I think that is good. The one reason is Mr. Huisman (Belmar chief of police). We need more people like him.
