A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 20 in St. Agnes Church, of Our Lady of Perpetual Help-St. Agnes Parish, Atlantic Highlands, for Deacon Raymond Russell Rainville, who died Nov. 16.

He was ordained a deacon for the Diocese of Trenton in 1999 by Bishop John M. Smith in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. He held a doctorate degree from Fordham University, N.Y.; served as an associate professor of criminal justice in St. Peter University, Jersey City; was a published author, leading expert to the New Jersey Supreme Court on child welfare and was a mentor and adviser to countless children and friends in his community. In addition to his service in Our Lady of Perpetual Help-St. Agnes Parish, he also served as director of the CYO in St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Red Bank.

Deacon Rainville was predeceased by his mother and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Dawn, Denise and Lisa; one son, Raymond Jr.;  and 11 grandchildren.

Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.
