CYO hosts 50th Annual Track and Field Meet

The Mercer County CYO celebrated their 50th Annual CYO Track and Field Meet May 22 at Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville. 

This year there were seven schools and parishes that competed in the meet, including Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony, Hamilton; St. Ann, Lawrenceville; St. Gregory the Great, Hamilton Square; St. Mary, Bordentown; St. Paul, Princeton; St. Raphael-Holy Angels, Hamilton and Trenton Catholic Academy, Hamilton. 

The day included 28 running events (100 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Run, 50 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Relay, 800 Meter Run, 75 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Run, 4 x 50 Shuttle Relay and the Sprint Medley) and 20 field events (long jump, shot put, jump rope, soccer kick, softball throw, baseball throw and the football throw) for the four divisions. The top 3 finishers in each event received ribbons for their achievement. 

Trenton Catholic Academy took home the first place trophy as they defended their title by winning this year’s meet. St. Gregory came in second place followed St. Paul in third place.

This year there were two CYO records that were broken. In the BJV shot put, Justin McClellan of TCA set a new record with a distance of 31 feet, 1 inch, breaking the previous record of 21 feet, 5 ½ inches; and in the Girls Varsity 200 meter dash, Whitney Gittens of TCA set a new record with a time of 30.3 seconds breaking the previous record of 30.6 seconds.
