Communion Reflection from Holy Family Parish, Keyport
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
"The journey towards helping the children prepare for their First Holy Communion is a difficult one. I look at it as a butterfly. They come to me as a caterpillar eager to learn yet nervous as to the vast information they will need to learn in such a short time. I see them grow and flourish, it is a huge challenge for each student and myself (I worry will they know everything; from the prayers to understanding why they are here, to the workings of a Mass.) I am graced with knowing that towards the end of our year they have an excitement about what they have accomplished the past year and finally the last week of preparation I see them emerge as butterflies.
The whole process of First Communion makes a difference in the lives of the children and parents as I see it helps renew our faith in our Church and God. The parents have given me the opportunity to help prepare them and guide them. That in itself shows the parents commitment and trust in our Church. As a parish and community it is our responsibility to continue to guide and encourage the children and families through their religious education."
