Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., surprises sophomores of Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville, as he drops in for a quick visit during their Spirituality Day March 14 in St. Ann Church, Lawrenceville. This was the second Spirituality Day for the sophomore class – one designated per grade per semester – which began with a Mass celebrated by NDHS chaplain Father Jason Parzynski. Each Spirituality Day split the class in two halves, one spending the day in service in the community, while the other half attended a talk with breakout sessions and prayer. The students who participated in community service last semester gathered at St. Ann’s to focus on the topic of Chastity and Relationships, while their classmates took their turn to serve. Keynote guest speaker Emily Rogers, a 2009 NDHS graduate who holds a theology degree from Mount St. Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, Md., spoke about right relationships and genuine friendships before the group broke into three smaller sections to rotate through. Small group sessions focused on understanding chastity more deeply; healthy dating and boundaries; and how to communicate and express wants and needs in a positive way. The latter topic was led by the NDHS junior class. Courtesy photo
