Bishop to celebrate first diocesan-wide Mass with college students
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will celebrate a Sunday Mass with college students at 11:30 a.m. April 7 in the Spiritual Center at The College of New Jersey, Ewing. College-age students from all institutions of higher learning are invited to take part in this opportunity to spend time with their bishop and to connect with others from each county of the Diocese who share their faith values.
After the Mass, all are welcome to attend lunch in the Decker Hall Lounge and a talk by Bishop O’Connell, followed by fellowship and conversation.
This inaugural event is sponsored by the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries as part of the Year of Youth proclaimed by the Bishop for the 2018-2019 year. Dan Waddington, department director, said the campus ministry of TCNJ is hosting and has prepared the details of the Mass under the direction of Father Erin Brown, chaplain.
Waddington noted that representation is expected from other colleges and universities in the Diocese of Trenton with Catholic campus ministry programs, including Princeton, Monmouth, Georgian Court and Rider Universities. However, he stressed, all college students are invited to take part.
He shared, “I am grateful that the Year of Youth and the Bishop have given us this opportunity. I hope this event will allow our college students to feel more connected to each other as Catholics whose faith is important to them, to the diocesan Church and the Bishop. I do hope we can continue this, possibly as an annual tradition moving forward.”
