Funeral services set for Sister Carol Ann Jaruszewski, Trenton native


Funeral services will be held in Immaculate Conception Chapel of Mount St. Mary, Watchung, for Mercy Sister Carol Ann Jaruszewski who died Dec. 5 in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. She was 74.

Sister Carol Ann, the former Sister Anne Mary, was born in Trenton and received her Sacraments in the Byzantine Catholic Church. She attended St. Mary of the Assumption School, Trenton, and was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Trenton. Prior to entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1964, she worked at Bell Telephone. She graduated from Georgian Court College (now University), Lakewood, with a degree in education and art education. She also received a master’s degree in fine arts from Montclair College (now University), Montclair, and a master’s degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University, Chicago.

Sister Carol Ann taught in elementary education and art in St. Mary Academy, Lakewood; St. Francis Cabrini School, Piscataway, and theology and art in St. Mary High School, South Amboy, and Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville. She later served as a pastoral associate in Notre Dame Parish, North Caldwell, for 30 years where she developed many programs for parishioners. After retiring from active ministry, she volunteered as a spiritual director and pastoral counselor. She also served as a resource for persons living with cancer and published a book entitled “Let Me Walk the Journey with You.”

A highlight of her work with cancer patients included hosting patient art exhibits in the Cancer Center in St. Barnabas Medical Center where she participated in art therapy.

Sister Carol Ann is survived by a brother and sister and their spouses, a nephew, a niece and three grandnieces.

Visitation will take place Dec. 10 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with a Welcome Home at 6:30 and Dec. 11 from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 1645 U.S. Highway 22, Watchung, N.J. 07069 and Mary’s Place, 22 Main Ave, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756.
