From staff reports
St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake, will host the Caritas Chamber Chorale at 3 p.m. May 19 in the church, 215 Essex Ave.
The chorale will perform its newest concert, “Grace Abides” to benefit the Adorno Fathers’ African Mission. The concert’s framework is Giovanni Pierluigi Palestrina’s “Missa Brevis,” with each movement followed by a contemporary choral piece. All is sung a cappella.
The “Missa Brevis” is a Mass written in 1570 by Palestrina, a 16th-century Italian Renaissance composer of sacred music.
Barbara Sanderman, Caritas co-founder and director, has been creating, rehearsing and conducting the concerts since 2005. During the May 19 performance, she will share the conductor’s baton with Dr. Mark A. Boyle of Seton Hill University, Greensburg, Pa.
There is no charge to attend the concert, but a freewill offering will be accepted to benefit the Adorno Fathers’ mission and school in Ghana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa. The school educates children ages 3 to 11 who likely would otherwise not have access to education.
