Joining their brothers and sisters around the world in celebrating the risen Lord, the Diocese’s faithful reflected on joy and peace in the Resurrection during the Easter morning Masses they attended with family and friends.
“I think it is the pinnacle of joy, of hope,” said Dorothy O’Hara of St. Michael Parish, West End, one of many who attended the 6 a.m. sunrise Mass April 1, hosted by the parish but held in the chapel at nearby Stella Maris Retreat House, Long Branch.
In the Trenton Diocese, churches were full March 31 with countless faithful eagerly awaiting the moment when the dark hours marking the Death of Jesus give way to the light of his return. In just two of those churches, Trenton’s St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral and St. Barnabas, Bayville, the jubilant sense of expectation was palpable during the Easter Vigil.
In the Cathedral, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., baptized three young men and confirmed 22 faithful of many generations.
