At Rite of Election, Bishop assures faithful new life in Christ is at hand

For Hassan Ahmad, the Easter Vigil will mark both the culmination of a long quest for faith and a new beginning.

Born in Pakistan to a Muslim family, he was not actively engaged in faith when he arrived in Princeton University to study political theory. But after finding “people who were living faithfully in a well-ordered life” at the university, he was inspired to embark on his own search for faith.

Bishop O'Connell calls for prayers to end infanticide
The U.S. Senate recently failed to pass the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act – legislation that prohibits infanticide by ensuring that a child born alive following an attempted abortion would receive the same degree of care to preserve her or his life and health as would be given to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.

Our two New Jersey senators, Sen. Cory Booker and Sen. Robert Menendez, voted against the legislation. Please join us in the Diocese of Trenton in a prayer for an end to infanticide.

Annual conference calls men of all generations to rebuild the Church

Noted author Curtis Martin opened the annual Catholic Men for Jesus Christ Conference by inviting all to step forward on behalf of the Church.

Referring to the Apostles who responded to Jesus, Martin said, “Each had a love for Christ, and all lived with the radical fact that he was leading them to a different path. Jesus tells us to put out into the deep and have no fear. … What if you look at all the suffering on earth? What if we, like the Apostles, live in a radically different way in the time we have?”

A message from Bishop David M. O'Connell, C.M., regarding the published list of clergy who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor
As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I write to share with you a preliminary list that the Diocese has compiled of clergy ordained for/incardinated in the Diocese of Trenton who have been credibly accused of the sexual abuse of a minor. This preliminary list will be updated as more information becomes available. I do this with the greatest sadness and with a heavy heart.

Our first responsibility must always be to those who have endured sexual abuse as minors and the release of these names is our effort to express acceptance of their allegations as credible and to indicate the status of their alleged abusers.  I greatly admire and respect the courage of those victims who have come forward. It is our hope that the public presentation of these names will contribute to healing the awful wounds that victims have endured at the hands of some clergy.

Please join me in prayer for all victims of sexual abuse in society, for their families and for all who have been affected and harmed by the sexual abuse of the young and vulnerable.  We also pray that the release of these names will encourage anyone who was abused as a child but has not reported that abuse to come forward now.
