More than 60 students representing the Diocese’s 31 elementary schools came together May 7 to hear how their hard work over the past months will once again help hospitalized children and their families.

“Collectively, look what you’ve done. It is very real what you did,” Judy Nicastro of the diocesan Department of Catholic Schools, said as she gestured to stacks of get-well cards, handmade blankets and more.

Schoolchildren offer words of support, encouragement, to seminarians
The printed (and crayoned) word is alive and well as the Knights of Columbus’ annual Seminarian Letter Project enters its second decade.

The campaign, instituted in 2000 by the New Jersey State Council of the Knights of Columbus, facilitates a link between children in Catholic schools and parish religious education programs and young men studying in seminaries around the country. Simple thank-you notes written by the youngsters, such as the one above by a Confirmation student in Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, acquaint them with the concept of priestly vocations and offer encouragement to those who will dedicate their lives to the Church as priests.

Law enforcement lauded, blessed at 20th diocesan Blue Mass

Booming music of bagpipes and drums reverberated through the worship space of St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral April 30 as the New Jersey State Police, Department of Corrections and Port Authority Police Pipes and Drums processed into the Trenton church for the Diocese’s 20th annual Blue Mass.

As about 800 police officers, detectives, academy members and faithful supporters gathered to bear witness to the gift of God in the lives of all who serve and protect, a police color guard carrying the American flag and flags representing the various police departments of the Diocese passed by those comprising the sea of blue.

Bishop blesses oils, faithful show support of priests during annual Chrism Mass

Fran Thompson was exuberant as she described witnessing for the first time the sacred traditions of the annual Chrism Mass.

“It was nothing like what I expected. It was just beautiful. You have to see it to believe it.  You have to experience it,” the St. Mary Parish, Barnegat, parishioner said. “I’m bringing my husband next year.”
