Along with his work as music minister in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Moorestown, Steve Lucasi was also the founding director of the Laudate Chorale, a community-based choir that presented concerts to benefit local charities.

Funeral services have been scheduled for March 16 for Stephen J. Lucasi, the longtime director of sacred music in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Moorestown, and former director of the Diocesan Festival Choir, who died suddenly March 8. He was 64.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 42 West Main Street, Moorestown, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at noon. Father Damian McElroy, pastor, will be the principal celebrant of the Mass.

Mr. Lucasi was born and raised in Williamsport, Pa. He was a graduate of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, and Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), Ewing, where he earned a master of arts degree in choral conducting. He dedicated his career in service of the Catholic Church, including serving as the music director in Sacred Heart Parish, Riverton, as well as his assignments with the Festival Choir and in Moorestown, where he would have celebrated 30 years of service this year.

From 2000 to 2005, Mr. Lucasi directed concerts with the Festival Choir and the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra as part of the annual Jubilee for the Performing Arts. An avid composer and arranger of music, he also founded the Laudate Chorale, “Chorus of Praise,” a group of singers whose performances raised funds to support charities and communities in need. He organized performance tours that brought his choirs to Italy, Ireland, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. His hobbies and interests included providing music lessons to children and adults.

Mr. Lucasi was predeceased by his mother. He is survived by his father, Stephen J. Lucasi of Williamsport, Pa.; his wife of 42 years, Barbara J. (Corbett) of Riverton; three children, AnaJean (John) Yevonishon of Hockessin, Del., Stephen P. of Los Angeles, Calif., and Marie (Sean) Sweeney of Glenside, Pa.; five grandchildren  and several siblings, nieces and nephews.

As it is Lent and flowers are not permitted in the church, contributions in Mr. Lucasi’s name are encouraged for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or to Food For The Poor (foodforthepoor.org).

Burial will be private.
