NJ Devils to host Faith & Family Day

By Rich Fisher | Contributing Editor

It is somewhat ironic that a sports team going by the name of the Devils is leading the way to promote faith.

That will be the case March 23 at the Prudential Center in Newark, when the New Jersey Devils host the Arizona Coyotes while sponsoring Faith and Family Day. The Devils are encouraging all denominations to come celebrate their faith, either as an individual, family or group.

“We think it is important for professional sports franchises, including the Devils, to promote all faiths because it is important that everyone feels welcome and celebrated at our events,” said Bridget O’Sullivan, the Devils account manager of group events. “This day is for anyone, of any faith … to come and celebrate their faith with their friends, families and communities.”

The event includes a limited edition of Devils Faith & Family Day T-Shirts, group block seating at the game, a special group welcome on the jumbotron, intermission performances by the Terrill Middle School band and Van Derveer fifth-grade band.

The day provides a perfect setting for church groups, youth sports teams, civic organizations and youth ministries to gather and honor their faith in a fun environment. Any parishes attending as a group receive a discount. There will also be a post-game photo session that provides a unique opportunity for anyone who purchases tickets directly through O’Sullivan, the Devils group events team or on the Devils personalized link: newjerseydevils.com/faithandfamilyday.

“Everyone will be allowed on the ice after the game to take a big group photo to celebrate the completion of our Faith & Family Day,” O’Sullivan explained. “I think this is going to be a great day for family, friends and our community. Faith is something that is important to a lot of people, and it is important to us as well. It also plays a huge role in the lives and success of many of our athletes. We love the idea of having a bunch of people come and celebrate their beliefs together, as well as join in the celebration of a great hockey game.”
