Bishop O'Connell visits Missionaries of Charity

Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., made a pastoral visit May 4 to the Missionaries of Charity convent in Asbury Park during which he celebrated Mass for the sisters and lay volunteers. The Missionaries of Charity is a worldwide religious community founded by St. Teresa of Kolkata. In 1995, then-Mother Teresa, visited the Diocese of Trenton, attending Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton, where Bishop John C. Reiss asked her to honor the Church of Trenton by sending members of her order to serve the Diocese. In 1999, the sisters arrived to the Diocese and have since been serving the poor of the city and its surroundings. The Sisters may also be found working with the religious education program in the city’s Mother of Mercy Parish. Courtesy photo
