The Trenton Catholic Academy Track & Field team not only maintained its dominance in the CYO of Mercer County Track & Field Meet, many of its athletes helped raise the bar for future competitors to try and get over.
TCA amassed 195 points to out-distance Our Lady of Sorrows, which finished second with 195 during the May 6 meet at Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville. It was the 10th straight title for TCA, which set five individual meet records and two relay records.
Audrey Bing was the day’s big winner, setting a pair of marks. Bing ran a 28.6 in the Girls Varsity 200-meter dash, breaking the former standard of 29.0. She clobbered the previous 400 mark of 1:05.9 by over three seconds, finishing with a gold-medal time of 1:02.8.
TCA’s Josh Pintella ran a 12.7 in the JV 100-meter dash, which broke the previous mark of 13.2. Brandon Napoleon set a 1600 mark in 5:57, eclipsing the former best time of 6:04. Colton Estilow won the Boys Varsity 800 in a 2:24, which crushed the old record of 2:29.5 by 5.1 seconds.
In the relays, both sprint medley teams set new standards. The Girls Varsity won in 2:08.9, breaking the previous record of 2:10.9. The Boys Varsity took a time of 1:55.3 to eclipse the old mark of 1:56.2. The sprint medley consists of two legs of 100-meter dashes, one 200 and one 400.
Becky Carey of St. Ann’s also had a banner day by setting two records in the Girls Junior Varsity events. Carey won the 800 run in 2:49.9 (old record 2:53.3) and claimed the 1600 in a time of 6:01.0 (old record 6:44.2).
