A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 16 in Notre Dame Church, Malone, N.Y., for Shirley M. Yando Morris, who died March 11 at age 87. Mrs. Morris was the mother of Trinitarian Father Thomas Morris, pastor of Incarnation-St. James Parish, Ewing.

Born in 1931 in Burke, N.Y., Mrs. Morris was a lifelong resident. She entered nurse training at Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital and later was a New York telephone operator. She was also a lecturer, nutritionist and social worker. In her late 40s, she returned to school to earn a bachelor of science degree in community and human services with an emphasis on food and nutrition from Empire State University. She then worked for the New York State Well Child Program, starting in 1981.

In Notre Dame Parish, Mrs. Morris was a commissioned minister and a director of the secular order of the Most Holy Trinity, making her vows in 1991. She also served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion for the homebound and for Masses, was a reader, teacher, spiritual director, mentor and also served on various committees and leadership positions.

Mrs. Morris was predeceased by her parents, two siblings and two brothers-in-law.  In addition to her priest-son, Mrs. Morris is survived by a daughter Carol (Robert B.) Patterson III, John (Mary Ann), and Jeffrey (Donna); five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother and sister and their spouses and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was to be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone, N.Y.
