Immaculata&rsquo s Symphony spring concert celebrates space

The Immaculata Symphony will hold its spring concert, &ldquo Symphony in Space,&rdquo April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the university&rsquo s Alumnae Hall. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization, with a long and outstanding tradition that goes back to the university&rsquo s founding in 1920.

With the 50 th anniversary of mankind&rsquo s first steps on the lunar surface, the Immaculata Symphony, conducted by Joseph Gehring, is celebrating the historic event with performances of Holst&rsquo s symphonic s suite, &ldquo The Planets. The music in each of the seven movements embodies the astrological and mystical qualities of a different planet. From the ominous, relentless march of Mars, the Bringer of War, to the robust festivities of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, the music has thrilled audiences ever since its spectacular debut  100 years ago.

Gehring is the music director and conductor for the Immaculata Symphony and Chester County Pops Orchestra, West Chester Band and the Immaculata University concert band. He is an active conductor, pianist and educator and is a frequent guest conductor of various honor/festival bands and orchestras throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware. He earned a master of music performance degree in orchestral conducting and serves as associate faculty in music in Immaculata and director of ensembles.

Cost for the concert is $10 for all adults and free for children under age 12. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. More information and tickets are available at immaculatasymhony.org.
