The Ocean County Mentoring program is looking for volunteers to visit schools once a week for about an hour to help children in need of extra attention and guidance. The program will take place at the McKinley School in Barnegat. Interfaith Health and Support Services of Southern Ocean County, which supports seniors and caregivers in their homes, are in need of office volunteers as well as volunteers to provide a few hours of respite care for the caregivers of persons with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. For more information or questions, call 609-973-3839.

CONTACT, a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline, will hold its next training class for telephone volunteers Sept. 12. Classes meet twice a week for six weeks from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Toms River area. This free and confidential service has been assisting the needs of individuals throughout the community since 1975.
