Jesus the Good Shepherd Parish, Riverside,is in need of assistant instructors to help with the parish’s English as a Second Language program. The assistants will help with small group and one-on-one instruction. People who are bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese are welcome to volunteer, but it is not a requirement. Fall session classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. in St. Peter School starting Sept. 12. Contact of Mercer County is offering volunteer training for prospective HOTLINE and/or Crisis Chat volunteers (age 18 or older) on Tuesdays Sept. 12 through Nov. 21. Classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. Training includes active listening skills, mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Classes will be held in the office building at the rear of the Pennington United Methodist Church, located at 60 South Main Street, Pennington.
