The following organizations are in need of volunteer services:

Githens Center, Mount Holly, is a private, non-profit organization that provides programs and services which help meet the physical, educational, therapeutic and social needs of individuals with cerebral palsy or other disabilities and their families. Through the expertise and efforts of the center’s multi-disciplinary team, services are provided for both children and adults that foster confidence, self-esteem, dignity and development to each individual’s maximum potential. Following is a list of ways in which volunteers can assist Githens Center: adult day care; after-school care; special activities (music, crafts, computers); light yard work; fundraising projects(golf classic, bike-a-thon and art auction planning committees).

Prospective volunteers may obtain a volunteer application form at githenscenter.org. Once completed, the applicant will be contacted within two weeks to discuss the specific volunteer activities available and scheduling. More information may be obtained by calling 609-261-1667.

Embracing Hospice Care, Wall, offers end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and their families. Care includes physical, emotional and spiritual support. Volunteers can visit the patient in their home to provide respite, companionship and socialization. Services include: pet, music and massage therapy, hair styling, shopping, vigil volunteering.

Each volunteer must agree to attend an initial interview and volunteer trainings which provide tools on: “Communicating with Compassion;” “Hospice 101;” “Role of the Volunteer;” “Confidentiality;” “Setting Boundaries;” “Infection Control;” “Client’s Rights;” “Self Care.” Medical requirements include tuberculosis testing, proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) and drug testing as well as undergo a criminal background check.
