From staff reports

The Rosary Altar Society of St. Peter Parish, Point Pleasant Beach, is inviting all faithful with a special devotion to Mary to join them on a statewide day of prayer and celebration at the Blue Army Shrine, 674 Mountain View Road, Asbury, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day’s events are open to all Rosary Altar Society members, members of the Legion of Mary and parishioners who wish to honor Mary in this centennial year of the apparitions to the three children in Fatima.

“”This is a great way to spread Our Lady’s message,” said Dorothy O’Reilly of St. Peter Parish. “We have never done this on such a scale before, and this can promote devotions to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary.”

O’Reilly continued, “During this 100th anniversary year, we hope to encourage everyone to pray the Rosary and offer up daily sacrifices for the reparation of sin. As we see the consequences of sin in today’s world… there is still much to pray about.”

The day will consist of a Mass, opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, a Rosary procession, speakers and Marian hymns. “We will thank and honor Our Lady for her messages and blessings and how they apply to us today.”

The Blue Army Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Asbury, Warren County, opened in 1978 and covers 150 acres. A statue of Mary stands 145 feet at the apex of the chapel, whose peaked roof is designed to appear as a robe protecting her children. There is an exact replica of the Chapel of Apparitions at Fatima, one of only two such replicas in the world, according to the shrine. Its website is wafusa.org.

O’Reilly is requesting Altar Rosary Societies contact her with an approximate number of attendees by July 1.
