A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 1 in St. Catherine of Siena Chapel at McAuley Health Care Center for Mercy Sister Sarah McCulloch, who died March 28. She was 88.

Born in Atlantic City, the former Sister Mary Barnabas entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1948. She completed her formal education at Georgian Court College (now University), Lakewood, with a degree in elementary education. 

In the ministry of education, Sister Sarah served in the following schools in the Trenton Diocese: St. Mary Academy, and St. Ann School, Keansburg, before being named principal of Our Lady of Lourdes School, Milltown, now in the Metuchen Diocese. After her term as principal ended, she returned to the classroom, teaching in her former schools of St. Ann School and St. Mary Academy.

In 1987, Sister Sarah left the teaching ministry but remained in Lakewood where she served as a workshop facilitator for Midlife Directions. She also began a series of positions as receptionist and secretary at United Methodist Homes in Neptune and later as a social services support staff member at Francis Asbury Manor, Ocean Grove.  In 2006, she transferred to Gabriel Hall at Mount St. Mary, Watchung, then later moved to McAuley Health Care Center. 

Sister Sarah is survived by several nieces and nephews and many Sisters of Mercy.  Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery South Plainfield.
