A  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 18 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Atlantic City, for Mercy Sister Mary Ann Liddy, who died May 15.

Born in Philadelphia, Sister Mary Ann (formerly Sister Mary Natalie) entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1956. She held a bachelor of arts degree from Georgian Court College (now University), a master’s degree in education from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) and continued studies in Fordham, Rutgers and Rowan universities, earning certifications in nursery school education, elementary education, principal and supervision and counseling.

Sister Mary Ann spent 60 years in education, teaching or serving as principal in schools in the Trenton, Camden and Metuchen Dioceses. In the Trenton Diocese, she served in St. Mary Academy, Lakewood; St. Joseph School, Trenton, and St. Catherine Laboure School, Middletown. At the time of her passing, she had been working as a counselor in Our Lady Star of the Sea School.

Sister Mary Ann is survived by two sisters and a brother and their spouses; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and members of her community.

Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.
