A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated March 16 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Church, 3rd Ave. and Ludlow Ave. Spring Lake, for Kathleen Ellen Finnerty Butch who died March 9 at 83. Mrs. Butch was the mother of Father Brian Butch, parochial vicar of St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, Freehold.

Born in Jersey City and raised in Bayonne, Mrs. Buch graduated from St. Mary’s Star of the Sea School, Bayonne, and St. Aloysius Academy, Jersey City. Prior to her marrying her husband, Donald, she worked as a cashier at the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company where she was chosen to model for their advertising campaign.  Once married, she and her husband lived at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Arlington, Va., then returned to New Jersey and lived in Bayonne, Toms River, Spring Lake Heights and Wall Township.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was a member of the Women of Irish Heritage and the James F. Ackerman Federation of the Jersey Shore Medical Foundation. For 10 y ears, she was the receptionist in the office at Holy Innocents Parish, Neptune.

Mrs. Butch was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Helen O’Connor Finnerty; her husband, Donald, and her sister, Joan. In addition to Father Butch, she is survived by three daughters, Susan Cox Henry (Jon); Kerry Margaret Butch of Asbury Park, and Megan (Robert) Queen, and another son, Kevin Butch of Avon-by-the Sea; five grandchildren; one great grandson, as well as a niece, nephews, friends and extended family members.

The funeral Mass will be livestreamed at on St. Margaret’s website, www.scsmsl.org. Once logged on, scroll to box that says “Watch Mass from St. Margaret” and click the box. The streampot will open 15 minutes prior to the Mass.

Because it is the season of Lent, flowers will not be permitted in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters Academy, c/o The Mercy Center, 1106 Main Street, Asbury Park, N.J. 07712. Donations will be used to purchase schoolbooks for the school’s inaugural fourth grade class.
