Mercy Sister Patricia Deckert died April 6 in McAuley Hall Healthcare Center, Watchung, at age 87.

Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services will be private, and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

Sister Patricia, formerly Sister Mary Brenda, was born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. and grew up in Sea Bright. She attended public and Catholic schools, graduating from Red Bank Catholic High School, Red Bank. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1951 and following first profession she earned a degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and a degree in nursing from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft. She taught in schools in the Metuchen, Trenton and Camden Dioceses including St. Joseph School, Trenton; St Mary of the Assumption Cathedral School, Trenton, and St. James School, Red Bank. She began her second career in nursing at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank. In 1986, she was named director of nursing in Cliffside Healthcare Center and later worked at MCOSS Nursing Services in Red Bank.

In 1992, she became a family caregiver in her mother's home in Sea Bright where she remained for 10 years. In 2002, Pat returned to Mount Saint Mary, Watchung.

Sister Patricia is survived by two sisters and a brother and many nieces, nephews and members of the Sisters of Mercy community.
