Transforming a religious education classroom into a digital lesson that is engaging and interactive for students will be the focus of a Digital Catechesis Webinar from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 29.

“We recognize that catechists in parishes and Catholic school teachers will be faced with teaching lessons through a virtual platform this year, and we want to provide some tools to help them think through the possibilities in providing virtual catechesis that is engaging and effective,” said Denise Contino, diocesan director of the Department of Catechesis.

The webinar will feature presenter Sarah Shutrop, who will provide the group with practical tips for engaging students in grades K-8, virtual catechesis and how to build relationships with those they catechize.

Shutrop, who holds a master’s degree in systematic and moral theology from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., currently serves as the director of formation at Immaculate Heart Academy, Washington Township in Bergen County, where she oversees the spiritual and theological development of young women by working on curriculum as well as innovative approaches to campus ministry.
