Parish communities from throughout the Diocese of Trenton have shown how much they value their local Catholic agencies and parish social service outreach programs via a generous donation to the 2022 Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

In a letter to Kevin Cimei, financial director, dated April 4, the CCHD expressed its gratitude to the Diocese of Trenton for its donation totaling $66,986.79.

The annual CCHD collection – sponsored by the U.S. Catholic Bishops and taken up each November before Thanksgiving – allocates 75 percent of the collected funds to the USCCB’s national CCHD office for programs across the country; 25 percent of the collection is retained by each Diocese to support  local anti-poverty projects.

A grant review committee will examine all applications from Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and award grants in amount ranging from $2,000 to $10,000; priority will be given to new initiatives that enhance or provide a foundation of self-sufficiency for those persons served by the program.

The organizations applying for the grant should have a mission that focuses on social services with an emphasis on basic human needs such as food, clothing, shelter and employment.

Grant recipients will be announced later this year.
