Schools of the Diocese of Trenton are back in full swing and many schools held special activities, ceremonies or liturgies to kick off the new year.

St. Raphael School, Hamilton, opened the new school year with a prayer service led by Father Jeffrey Kegley, pastor of St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, Hamilton. Father Kegley also presided at a ceremony during which he blessed the classrooms. The evening concluded with an ice cream social.

On the first day of school Sept. 2, Father Stanley P. Lukaszewski, pastor of St. Denis Parish, Manasquan, led a ceremony in which he blessed the backpacks and school supplies belonging to the students of St. Denis School. The 2009-2010 year marks an important milestone in the life of St. Denis School as it observes its 50th anniversary. An anniversary Mass and dinner for alumni is planned for Oct. 10.
