How can rising high school juniors and seniors get a taste of college life in the nation’s capital while learning how faith can play a role in their future careers? A week with the Light the World! Summer Institute is the answer.

Sponsored by The Catholic University of America, Washington, the Light the World! Summer Institute is welcoming 50 students to spend a week living the life of a college student. Identical sessions are scheduled for June 23-29 and July 7-13.

During the week, participants will sit in on brief lectures from individuals within various fields of work who have continued using their Catholic faith in their profession in areas of science, art, business, politics and sports.

In the afternoons, students will explore Washington and meet people who have achieved excellence in their field and who can speak about the impact of their faith on their work. In the evenings, students will participate in prayerful reflections and hear witnesses from the undergraduate counselors about the variety of ways God has worked in their lives.

“I experienced and learned just as much as the participants did,” said Sam Guevara, a CUA senior and Light the World! counselor. “We can never hear too much about integrating our faith into our future careers and everyday lives.”

The price for a week with Light the World! is $325 and covers all costs including housing, meals, transportation, entry fees for all excursions and a T-shirt. Scholarships are available upon request. Students can also be nominated for the program; if nominated, they will receive an email inviting them to apply.

Applications are $75 and must be submitted by May 23 online at lighttheworldcua.org, then clicking “How to apply.” Applicants are required to write a 250-400 word essay on “How do you foresee your faith interacting with your dream career?”
