Red Bank Catholic High School’s football team is No. 1.

During the Nov. 26 Non-Public B championship game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, the RBC Caseys shut out opponents De Paul Catholic High School, Wayne, 13-8, going on to achieve the NSIAA Non-Public B championship. The win also marks the fourth time for the Caseys to earn non-public state championship status in the program’s history which began in 1974 and the third time since 2014.

Game highlights for the Caseys reflect the team’s strong defense play that included the skills demonstrated by safety/running back Sabino Portella throwing a pass and the winning touchdown scored by quarterback Alex Brown on a two-yard run with 2:11 left in the third quarter.

Winning the state championship was particularly meaningful for Brown as he thought about his mother who died Nov. 11 after having battled breast cancer for many years.

In an interview that was shown on Twitter, Brown described the feeling of winning the state championship “amazing. You can’t really describe the feeling. I’m so proud of my guys, so proud of my defense, my coaches my fans … I love everyone … I’m going to enjoy every second.”

Reflecting on his touchdown performance that led to the state win, Brown added that “This is what gives me the drive to play in those games.” Of his mother, he said, “She gave me the drive to play these games.”
