For centuries, the Catholic Church dedicates the month of May to the Blessed Virgin Mary. One of the most popular devotions is the May crowning in which a floral crown is placed on a statue of the Blessed Mother and other bouquets may be placed at her feet or in vases that surround her.  A number of parishes and schools in the Diocese have held May crownings during the first several days of the month and more ceremonies are expected to take place in the coming days including on Mother’s Day which this year is May 14.
