At Georgian Court University, Lakewood, more than 300 first-year students and transfer students joined efforts Aug. 25 to feed the hungry – worldwide. During the university’s annual new student orientation service project, students spent about two hours packaging more than 17,000 meal kits with rice, dehydrated vegetables, flour and a vitamin/nutrient blend. The kits are on their way to Raleigh, N.C., where the nonprofit organization Rise Against Hunger will ship them worldwide to aid international hunger relief. Founded in 1908 and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, GCU is a Catholic, comprehensive, coeducational university with a strong liberal arts core and a historic special concern for women.
