This month’s issue highlights the Month of Remembrance and the ways that we respond in love to the loss of the faithful departed – both those with whom we were close and all those with whom we are united in faith. Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., focuses his message on the Month of Remembrance, emphasizing the importance of praying for the dead, particularly the souls in Purgatory.

Our cover is dedicated to the story of Joan and Michael Kret of Middletown and the ways that their family’s remembrance of their late 29-year-old son is an extension of their commitment to honor the value every human life, especially those impacted by profound disability.

This issue also includes a list of the bishops, priests and deacons of the Diocese who have died.  This In Remembrance list will be printed in the magazine once each year, and will be posted and updated on our website, for all who want to pray for these departed souls.

You’ll also want to look for these special packages:

  • A spotlight on the newly-beatified Blessed Michael McGivney and the faithful organization which he founded  the Knights of Columbus – as the Diocese plans a special tribute to both

  • A 600-year-old work of art quietly on display in Sacred Heart Church, Trenton, is getting new attention as part of a national video series entitled “Beauty Heals.”

  • What the Catholic community needs to know about the return to in-person Masses as Christmas and greater COVID concerns near.

  • National Vocation Awareness Week is a time to check in on how the Diocese is doing with fostering vocation discernment and response.

As always, The Monitor Magazine brings you stories of ordinary Catholics doing extraordinary things to help our brothers and sisters, information about events and programs planned around the Diocese and our regular Spanish-language section:  El Anzuelo.
