We need a lot of Christmas!

There are high expectations for Christmas 2021, and the new issue of The Monitor Magazine offers readers lots of inspiration and insight as they prepare for the coming of the season. From the Christmas message of Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., entitled “Christmas:  Make It Last,” to our examination of parish efforts to welcome those who have not yet returned to church, the December issue is all about how to make the most of this beautiful opportunity to shut out the world’s noise and conflict, and focus on peace and love.

Look for a Christmas feature on the most precious of gifts, and an overview of the Gifts of Community, Presence, Sharing and Prayer as offered and received in our parish communities.  Also check out the second chance story of a homeless artist who designed the Vatican Christmas stamps; a warm and cozy Christmas soup recipe, and a study of God’s grandeur as described by poet and priest, Jesuit Father Gerard Manley Hopkins.

Other highlights in this month’s 72-page edition:

  • Update on the diocesan phase of Synod 2021-2023; an overview of the new Communion statement approved by the U.S. Bishops, and a backgrounder on the Supreme Court’s consideration of a Mississippi abortion ban.
  • YOUNG CATHOLICS: A round-up of how parishes marked World Youth Day locally; #GivingTuesday draws great response for Catholic schools of the Diocese; Alex Brown, Red Bank Catholic quarterback, reflects on the experience of leading his team to a championship even as he grieves over the recent death of his mother.
  • LOCAL NEWS:  Two Burlington County parishes celebrate new construction, church renovations; Father Peirano installed as pastor in St. Thomas More Parish; Statue of Blessed Mother dedicated to Father Martin Padovani.
  • ALSO, look for our Spanish-language section, EL ANZUELO; and SPIRITUAL LIFE commentary.
