Holy Eucharist Parish, Tabernacle, is working to make Halloween a joy-filled experience for its neighbors living in New Lisbon Developmental Center on Oct. 26.

Because of the pandemic, much of the facility’s Halloween plans will need to be modified. That’s where Holy Eucharist parishioners come in, with Give-N-Treat: donating candy, inflatables and pumpkins to gift the residents, using an online wish list. On Oct. 26 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. they are invited to drive in decorated cars, wearing costumes, to deliver their offerings to New Lisbon.

After the success of its Christmas in July campaign to give gifts to the residents, many of whom were afflicted with COVID-19 or quarantined because of the pandemic, Jeff Siedlecki of the HERO Youth Ministry (Holy Eucharist Reaching Out) produced a video inviting viewers to revisit the idea for another holiday dear to New Lisbon.

“I know for most of us COVID-19 has been trying at best, but for those folks over at New Lisbon, trying would be an understatement,” he said in the video. “It was brought to our attention … they really embrace Halloween at New Lisbon. They even decorated the wheelchairs for Halloween.”

“We’re modifying everything in our lives right now, but not this, not a chance to make them smile,” Siedlecki said. “We get a chance to teach kids what it feels like to give candy ... This is one of those chances when I get to show you how joy-filled I am, and how joy-filled we can be when we bring joy to those who could really use it.”
