Red Bank Catholic High School’s Beth Boylan, who serves as an English teacher and department chair, spent a portion of her summer at The School of the New York Times Summer Academy. There, she worked as a writing instructor and paired with a New York City-based published author/journalist to teach high school students in a creative writing course.

Students from throughout the world undergo a rigorous application process and are selected by a committee of readers from the school. Boylan's group included students from a variety of places, including China, South America, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Los Angeles and New York.  In addition to intense all-day writing sessions, the class took field trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Chelsea Market and the New York Public Library.

They also welcomed several guest speakers including a novelist, food critic and book reviewer for The New York Times to spark further writing inspiration.
