From June 29 to July 3, about 90 boys ages 7 to 15 took part in the South Jersey Basketball Academy at St. Mary of the Lakes School in Medford.  Probably none of the boys realized that, among their number, there were two boys whose family was experiencing a crisis that led them to become homeless.

On behalf of my agency, I’d like to thank Medford resident Brian Bouchard and his South Jersey Basketball Academy for donating two slots in their week-long basketball camp to these young men.  Interfaith Hospitality Network of Burlington County serves homeless families, and the days can be long for our kids once school is out.  Parents who are trying to find housing and get their family back on track have no extra resources to place their children in summer activities, as so many of us are blessed to be able to do with our children and grandchildren.

The boys had a great time!  They are still talking about it, a week later.

Our program relies on volunteers and donated goods and services; we greatly appreciate Mr. Bouchard’s compassion and generosity, as well as the continued support of St. Mary of the Lakes Parish.
