Social service agencies that provide everything from transportation assistance for seniors to religious development for the incarcerated are among the 17 recipients of grants from the 2016 George W. Ahr Endowment Fund.
Bearing the name of the seventh bishop of the Diocese, the fund was established to present annual grants for special projects. Any parish, office, apostolate, individual, parish special ministry or organization attempting to provide services for vulnerable and/or poor families/individuals within their community is eligible to apply for support.
Awards are determined by the Bishop George W. Ahr Endowment Fund Committee, which selects from the pool of applicants who describe their amount needed with a detailed rationale for their requests. The $10,000 grant is the endowment fund interest that is accumulated in a year’s time.
