Registration open for March 2 young adult retreat in Toms River

Young adults age 18-39 are invited to the Diocese’s annual young adult retreat March 2, beginning at 10 a.m. in St. Luke Parish, 1674 Old Freehold Rd., Toms River.
The daylong event, hosted by the diocesan Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, will include lunch and the parish Mass at 4 p.m. at the retreat’s end in St. Luke Church. The retreat theme – “Flipping Tables” (to make room for God) – will be explored by Dan Palmieri and Anthony McCullough of JMJ Missions.
Described as enthusiastic, informal and relatable, Palmieri’s and McCullough’s talk titles include “Set the World on Fire,” “Source & Summit: The Holy Eucharist,” “Bringing Your Loved Ones Back to God” and many others.
Another part of the presentations will include breakout sessions: “Flipping tables in your prayer life,” with Lisa Limongello, parish catechetical leader in St. Luke Parish as well as in the three parishes that make up the Catholic Community of Hopewell Valley – St. James, Pennington; St. Alphonsus, Hopewell, and St. George, Titusville; “Flipping tables in life’s decision’s,” with Father Christopher Colavito, diocesan director of vocations and chaplain in The College of New Jersey, Ewing, and “Flipping the tables at home, work and school,” with Father Rick Osborn, parochial vicar of St. James Parish, Red Bank.
Father Michael Kennedy, pastor of St. Luke Parish, will celebrate the 4 p.m. Mass and incorporate the retreat theme in his homily. He will also help to lead Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and hear confessions.
JMJ Missions consists of Palmieri, McCullough and Rocco Taraborrelli – a New Jersey-based Catholic evangelization team dedicated to spreading the Gospel. The name "JMJ" stems from the iconic inscription of one of their inspirations, Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen, who inspired thousands with his charisma through TV and radio in the 1950's and 60's. The team ministers as live speakers, YouTubers, social media influencers and podcasters.
“The three of us grew up distant from faith and spirituality in our teen years,” the JMJ website describes. “However, life-changing events occurred as young adults, which opened us up to the reality of God, his Church, and his unconditional love. After having been touched by the Lord intensely in our own personal lives, we believe it's our turn to bring the hope and joy of Christ to others. We want to do this in a fun, natural, and firmly Catholic way."
