Funeral services announced for Dr. Eileen Marie Hoefling, former Chancery staffer

Dr. Eileen Marie Hoefling, a former associate director of the diocesan Office of Religious Education (now Department of Catechesis), died Feb. 19 at age 77.

Funeral services will begin Feb. 25 with visitation in Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. The following day, Feb. 26, visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 260 High St., Mount Holly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Dr. Hoefling was born in 1946 in Staten Island, N.Y., and grew up in Rosedale N.Y.  Following her high school graduation she entered the Congregation of the Infant Jesus community in Rockville Centre, N.Y., where she remained for a few years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Newark State Teachers College, graduating as class valedictorian. She and her husband, Deacon John Hoefling, who she married in 1970, relocated to Burlington County where  they lived on a dairy farm in Columbus and raised four children.

Dr. Hoefling pursued further education including a master of arts degree in theological and pastoral studies from La Salle University, Philadelphia, and a doctorate of ministry degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation. Besides her position with the Diocese, Dr. Hoefling also served parish assignments as director of religious education included St. Andrew Parish, Jobstown (now part of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, New Egypt); Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Maple Shade, and Sacred Heart Parish, Mount Holly.

In addition to her husband, Dr. Hoefling is survived by her son, John Felix Jr.; three daughters, Jennifer (Anthony) Cascarelli, Elizabeth (Tyler) Finn and Patricia (Jack) Tuman; five grandchildren; a brother, a cousin and extended family and friends.
